News Saudi Arabia passes Russia as top oil producer

Oil production in Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest crude exporter, rose to 10.103 million barrels a day in June, from 9.807 million barrels a day in May, overtaking Russia as the world’s largest producer, official data showed.

The official representative of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Prosecutor's Office, Vladimir Markin, said on 8 August 2012 that Georgia's authorities used Ukrainian hirelings to compromise Russian soldiers in the armed conflict in South Ossetia in 2008. Markin said that the Ukrainians “dressed in Russian military uniform and then scenes showing Russian servicemen attacking and robbing Georgian civilians were staged”. Markin added that Russia is going to complain to the International Criminal Court demanding an investigation into these facts. READ MORE

Turkey expects an increase in trade turnover with Azerbaijan to $4 billion by the end of this year, Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan said in Baku on Tuesday during a speech at the second meeting of economic ministers of the Council of Cooperation of Turkic-speaking states.

On 30 July 2012, the Ukrainian parliament ratified an agreement on setting up a free trade area (FTA) with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Lb.ua news and analysis website reported. The document was submitted for ratification by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. READ MORE

News Ukraine interested in Chinese coal gasification technology

Ukraine is interested in Chinese technology that can generate power via coal gasification, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said Tuesday. "The substitution of expensive imported gas with coal is a strategic issue for us. We are interested in the Chinese technology of coal gasification and coal-water fuel production," Azarov said during a meeting with Li Jiping, vice president of the China Development Bank.

News Tajik President, Russian Deputy Defence Minister discuss timing of stay of Russian military base in country

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received the Russian military delegation headed by Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov. The delegation is in Dushanbe on a three-day working visit, military and diplomatic sources told ITAR-TASS. The sources noted that the main theme of the meeting was the question of the terms and conditions of 201st Russian military base stay in Tajikistan.
