India, Norway to jointly develop expertise in geothermal energy
India and Norway are collaborating on a research and development project to develop expertise to harvest geothermal energy and contribute to human resource development. The final report of this project is expected to be submitted in 2015. Inaugurating a one-day workshop on the joint project, the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology director AK Gupta said that geothermal energy is a clean sustainable energy source providing heat throughout the year.“As per estimates of Geological Survey of India, the country has the potential of generating 10,000 MW electricity from geothermal sources but it is estimated that the installed capacity for direct utilisation of this energy in India is only 265 MW though presently no electricity is generated from this resource.

Kazakhstan Expands Gas Transit Pipeline Capacities and Own Exports to China
The longest section of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China transit pipeline passes through Kazakhstan’s territory: it measures 1,115 kilometers in length, of the total 1,830-kilometer Turkmenistan-China distance. Kazakhstan is adding a dedicated export pipeline for its own gas exports to China. In combination, these developments (alongside planned oil exports) confer to Kazakhstan a major role in China’s energy security calculations.

Turkmenistan masters Galkynysh in order to increase gas exports
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted at a government meeting that the timely commissioning of major gas fields, including Galkynysh is provided by the strategic plans to steadily increase the supply of energy resources to world markets, the Turkmen government said on Thursday.
