Oil rebounds on Saudi assurances Russia will extend supply cuts

Oil prices closed 1.5 percent higher on Friday, rebounding from five-month lows, following positive U.S. jobs data and assurances by Saudi Arabia that Russia is ready to join OPEC in extending supply cuts to reduce a persistent glut.

Trump, Putin discuss Syria ceasefire in first talks since U.S. air strikes

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on Tuesday for the first time since U.S. air strikes in Syria on April 4 strained U.S.-Russian relations and said they would seek a ceasefire in the Syrian civil war.

Russians, in peaceful protest, call for Putin to quit

Several hundred Russians lined up in central Moscow on Saturday under the gaze of riot police to hand over handwritten appeals for President Vladimir Putin to quit, as similar protests took place in other cities.

Russia, ahead of planned protest, bans Kremlin critic's foundation

Russia said on Wednesday it had banned a pro-democracy movement founded by Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky which has called for big anti-government protests on Saturday ahead of a presidential election next year.

U.S. will not give Exxon permission to drill in Russia

The United States will not make an exception for American companies, including oil major Exxon Mobil Corp, seeking to drill in areas prohibited by U.S. sanctions on Russia, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Friday.

Russia complains to U.S. over exclusion from Syria chemical probe
