Pakistan wants to get Turkmen gas through IP pipeline

Pakistan has proposed to Turkmenistan to supply gas via Iran by using the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline, instead of laying a pipeline through the war-torn Afghanistan, under swap arrangement, Business Recorder has learnt. Experts of the two countries will review the proposal in the 11th Steering Committee meeting on TAPI gas pipeline project scheduled for September 15-20 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Ukraine wants to revise gas deal with Russia: PM

The base price for Russian natural gas is still disadvantageous for Ukraine despite a new deal reached last April and the Kiev government will press Moscow to bring it down, Ukraine's prime minister said on Wednesday.

Sevak Sarukhanyan: Armenia has no alternative to development of nuclear energy

Armenia is going to construct a new unit of the NPP with 1000MW capacity with participation of Russia, which will supply equipment for the nuclear island making 20% of the project entire cost. The new unit’s construction is planned to be launched in 2012 and completed in five years.

Enefit begins pilot period for electricity supply to Latvian households

Enefit, the Latvian subsidiary of Estonian energy producer Eesti Energia, has begun a pilot period for electricity supply to Latvian households, taking advantage of the open energy market, the business portal Nozare.lv was informed by Enefit Chairman Aivars Tihane.

'Wild capitalism' destroying habitats in Bulgaria

Environmentalists have called on the EU to take action against widespread destruction of protected natural habitats in Bulgaria caused by the construction of tourist resorts, golf courses and ski slopes, sand and gravel extraction and intensive wood production. Without action, they warn, the situation could be repeated in Romania and future EU member states.
