Forging a transatlantic consensus on Russia
Recommendations for Action
In December 2009 Institute for Eastern Studies and the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations organized a conference entitled "Forging a US-EU Strategic Partnership." The conference provided specific recommendations by various opinion leaders on a reformed US-EU relationship. Throughout the sessions and informal meetings there was a consensus that if the transatlantic partnership is to be a progressive force in the world to come, Americans and Europeans must urgently build a strategic partnership that is more effective in dealing with new partners and addressing transformations. A lot of attention was devoted to the Russian Federation and challenges that the trilateral US-EU-Russia dialogue needs to face. These findings encouraged us to continue searching for ways to forge the transatlantic consensus on Russia.
